Welcome to Hasnain's Tools

Thank you for taking the time to visit my website. I am Hasnain Saleem, and this website is dedicated to my software - the ones that I have made so far, and the ones that I would in the future.

All my work is released under the terms and conditions of the GNU/GPL and as such, you have the freedom to use my software and if you wish, also see and modify it's source code. However, if you wish to create your own program based on my code, then the following two conditions need to be met:

  • You must distribute your program code under the terms and conditions of the GNU/GPL
  • The original credit to my code must remain intact

I hope you enjoy your stay here. As always, any feedback that you may have is welcome!

QuickZIP Survey
Posted by: Hasnain on Tuesday, January 01, 2008 - 05:58 PM
Software QuickZIP has been in existence for a few years now. I originally developed QuickZIP as a way to open ZIP files in office, as I did not have any archiving software installed. Due to licensing issues, my office System's Administrator disabled software installations. Hence, I could not install any of the freely available and/or commercial software downloaded from the internet.

Thus, I came up with QuickZIP, a software utility which does not require an installaion, and which does not come with any licensing issues. It's free to use, whether commercially or personally, or in any other way. Additionally, you have access to the full sourcecode of the software, so anyone experienced in Borland Delphi can make changes and ammendments to the software and it's code.

Now, after using it for a while, and with the advent of newer archiving formats, all of which are available freely on the internet (some even provide access to their sourcecode), I believe that QuickZIP is due for a revamp. It needs to support newer formats like RAR/7-ZIP/ACE/ARJ/XXE/UUE and more. Some of these are open-source formats, so QuickZIP can support both creating and extracting archives from such formats. Others are proprietary formats, and QuickZIP can only support reading and extracting from files of these formats.

I would love to hear from you on this subject. Your feedback is appreciated. I have created a Poll to hear from you on this.

QuickZip featured on Softpedia.com

Software

Softpedia.com has featured QuickZip on their website, since February 18th, 2005, 05:02 GMT. Here are excerpts from the website:

Hasnain QuickZip description

QuickZip is a freeware file archiver, which handles .zip files. Unlike the conventional file archivers, it does not have any installer program that copies files to your system directory, or modifies the registry.

QuickZip comes in a simple, self-extracting package that extracts files to the folder _you_ specify, and does not go beyond that. This is particularly useful, if you do not have permissions to create files in the system directory, or modify the registry, such as offices, or other networks. In such cases, you may need to unzip files, but cannot install any program. QuickZip will help you in such situations.

New look and a new domain!

It has been about two years since the previous website had to go (due to a server upgrade at sf.net). Since then, I have been trying to get a robust solution for the website that could handle several things at once: Downloads, Articles, Forums and some basic Admin and Content management.

After several evaluations about a year ago, I had to settle for phpBB as the forum software that I would use on the website, based on the fact that I have used it before and it does a very good job at being what it is - a forum software! I had still not narrowed down on what CMS I would use. So I installed it but did not install a CMS and left the website at that. For about a year, it stayed that way.

Wally - Version 1.1
Posted by: Hasnain on Tuesday, November 20, 2007 - 07:33 AM
Software

What is Wally?

Wally is a simple desktop wallpaper changing utility. It reads all the JPEG/BMP files present in a particular directory (and it's sub-directories) and then randomly changes your Windows desktop wallpaper from amongst these images.

Wally is less than 1MB in size, and it neatly sits in your system tray shuffling your wallpaper at specific intervals. You have the option to change the current wallpaper as well by clicking just one button.

I created Wally mainly because I was not able to find a good, free software utility that does the same, and was equally customizable. Wally will not mess around with system files, will not touch your Windows registry (unless, you select the auto-start with Windows) option, and there's no installation or uninstallation of the program.
